Disk-to-Disk Physical Disk Copy

Faster disk cloning from one drive to another

Disk-to-disk_copy.pngCopy Physical Disk (Disk-to-Disk Copy or D2D), enables users to copy or clone their entire hard drive to a new or different hard drive. This feature bypasses the typical steps of backing up, verifying, and restoring a drive by using a sector by sector copy process that combines all steps, which reduces downtime if you are replacing or upgrading hardware.

There are several other advantages of disk-to-disk copy including higher speed and higher capacity, relative to tape or other media, resulting in shorter backup and recovery times and lower total cost of ownership thanks to increased automation and lower hardware costs.

ActiveImage Protector’s Disk-to-Disk copy feature is available in all AIP products as a Wizard. To access it go to the Tools menu, select Copy Physical Disk and the Disk/Volume Copy Wizard lets you choose whether you would like to copy a volume, or an entire disk drive. You then simply select a target drive and the destination. If the target drive is larger than the source drive, AIP allows you to keep volumes the original size (with the rest of the drive being unallocated) or you can enlarge the volumes to fit the larger drive by keeping the same percentages.
