Rectiphy ActiveImage Protector uses a non-proprietary snapshot driver to back up active applications and servers. No need to shut them down.

Utilizing Microsoft’s Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) ensures the integrity of backed up data.

When AIP wants to perform a backup it notifies VSS, which notifies any VSS aware applications that a backup is about to be performed. Those VSS registered applications can then put their data into a consistent state. Desktops, Servers and virtual machines running supported operating systems with VSS integration components can preserve their state.

A sector tracking driver, unique to ActiveImage Protector, works together with VSS to provide incremental backups. (This allows for the safe backups of VSS-supported applications (SQL, Exchange, IIS, Oracle, etc.), even while the applications are active.)
